Bundaberg has Sister City Agreements with
  • Nanning in China.
  • Agreement signed 12 May, 1998 in Bundaberg by Mayor Nita Cunningham and Mr Lin Guoqiang, Mayor of Nanning.



  • Settsu City in Japan (pictured right).
  • Agreement signed 9th November, 1998 in Settsu City by Mayor Kay McDuff and Mayor Kaoru Morikawa. (picture above)

Benefits of Sister City arrangements:

Such agreements offer this city and its citizens opportunities for a variety of mutual exchange programs in such fields as education, sport, industry and commerce, technology, as well as the possibility of visits by professional groups, youth groups and service clubs etc.

The Bundaberg Sister-City Community Committee is keen to promote the benefits of sister-city agreements with schools and community groups now and in the future.

Visits:

It is to be noted that all visits to and from our sister cities are self funded. No subsidy is provided by Council.

 Nanning:

  • 7 - 16 April 1997 by Mayor Nita Cunningham
  • 11 - 13 May 1998. Mayor Nita Cunningham signed the agreement.
  • 8 - 17 December, 1998. A delegation visited Nanning for the 40th anniversary celebrations
  • 21 - 31 July 1999. A delegation of students and officials from Nanning visited Bundaberg.(picture above)
  • 12 - 17 November, 1999. A delegation from Bundaberg attended the International Festival of Folk Songs in Nanning.
  • 7 - 8 December 1999. A delegation from Nanning visited Bundaberg.
  • 9 - 12 May 2000 - Agricultural Delegation.
  • 21 - 25 Sep 2000 - Mayor McDuff led delegation to Nanning.
  • 31 Jan - 6 Feb 2001 - Hosted delegation of Nanning dancers for our Centenary of Federation celebrations. (pictures below)
  • 11 - 12 Apr 2001 - Hosted delegation from Nanning consisting of the following:
    • Head:
      • Mr Li Ke (Chairman of People's Congress of Nanning City and President of Nanning Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
    • Members:
      • Mr Cha Xiaojian (Director of Planning Administration Bureau of Nanning City)
      • Mr Chen Jianxin (Director of Tourism Administration Bureau of Nanning City
      • Mr Li Tong (Interpreter of Foreign Affairs Office of Nanning City)
    They were here to look at sugar cane growing and industry.

  •  Settsu City:
    • 3 - 4 May, 1998 - A delegation from Settsu City visited Bundaberg.
    • 6 - 10 November, 1998. A delegation visited Settsu City (picture above) where Mayor Kay McDuff signed the Sister City Agreement.
    • 27 - 29 October, 1999 - Settsu City delegation visited Bundaberg.
    • 7 - 10 May 2000 - Sports leaders visit(picture below).
    • 17 - 25 August 2001 - student visit by Settsu children to St Luke's and Shalom Colleges.

     

    Schools currently communicating are:

     

    • Settsu:
      Branyan Road State School, Shalom College, Bargara State School, Norville State School, St. Josephs
    • Nanning:
      Bundaberg Christian College

     

    Visit by 20 middle school children from Nanning to Bundaberg Christian College 21 - 31 July, 1999 where they were home hosted (picture). A return visit is being planned by the Bundaberg Christian College to Nanning later this year.

    Contact has been made with the Sporting associations re upcoming exchanges to Settsu City, Japan in the future.
