Bundaberg City Council

Under the new aviation security framework, airports across Australia with Regular Public Transport (RPT) operations are required to implement a range of measures to tighten aviation security.

One of the requirements of a security controlled airport is the implementation of air side vehicle control.

Airside vehicle control has two aims. One is to avoid damage to aircraft or injury to passengers on aprons, the other is to ensure that on runways and taxiways priority is given to aircraft. In addition to common law rights, the aerodrome operator also has powers under specific statutory legislation in respect of vehicle control on the airside of the aerodrome.

As from the 1st July, 2006 no person shall enter on or operate a vehicle on airside areas without prior and specific authorisation from the Chief Executive Officer of the Bundaberg City Council or persons approved by him.

Enquiries regarding authorisation and approval forms for authority to drive airside can be obtained from the Engineering counter at the Bundaberg City Council Offices or by contact their Technical Officer, Mr Tim Lawson, on telephone 4153 9900.
